Today we attended the Lawcover Claims Prevention Seminar. Jealous?
Lawcover is the insurer for lawyers in New South Wales. When lawyers get sued, Lawcover gets involved to help resolve the dispute.
In the last couple of years, total claims against lawyers have gone down despite a big increase in the number of lawyers and law firms practising in NSW. One reason for this is the great job Lawcover has done educating lawyers about how to manage their litigation risks.
Can speech pathologists learn from lawyers? Both are communication-based ethics-based, service professions, so we think so. We live-tweeted the Lawcover event with a view to collecting some of the speakers’ key tips and tricks that might apply to speech pathologists in private practice looking to improve their legal risk management. We’ve collected them in one place via Storify below.
Topics covered include general risk management strategies, working with vulnerable elders, how to identify your clients properly and how to reduce litigation risk.
Where possible, we’ve tried to “translate” legal jargon into speech pathology jargon to make the points clearer. We hope you find the tips useful in your practice!
